Manchester United 2016-17 Third Shirt

Adidas unveiled officially the third football shirt 16-17 for Manchester United on 29 July 2016. The brand new shirt took inspiration from the shirts designed for Newton Heath LYR Football Club, a former name of Manchester United, which participated in major sporting events, including the Lancashire Cup, the Manchester and District Challenge Cup, the FA Cup and so on. On 24 April 1902, Manchester United was officially born.

This new third jersey 16-17 aims to pay tribute to Manchester United’s glorious history. It started from a hardworking railway worker team, and currently has become a leading club in the world with millions of football fans. The spirit of the workers who were born more than 100 years ago makes the current Red Devils, and this spirit is also reflected in this jersey.

The white jersey features black patterns on shoulders and sleeves. The collar and cuffs are black. Classic Adidas three stripes are placed on both sides of the shirt, symbolizing victory. The most indispensable elements(Adidas brand logo and the club crest) are proudly printed on the chest.

Players of Manchester United would wear the shirt for the first time in a game against Galatasaray on 30 July 2016. In addition, they would also wear the shirt in the first Premier League game in the 2016-17 season.

Peter Schmeichel is one of players who have played for Manchester United and he has announced his retirement as a professional footballer in April 2003.

On May 2, 2016, 29-year-old Kasper Schmeichel helped Leicester City win the Premier League. On the same day 23 years ago, his father Peter Schmeichel helped Manchester United get the title of the competition, too. They have become the second group that father and son all have won the Premier League title after Ian Wright and Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Manchester United 2017-18 Third Football Shirt

Adidas and Manchester United jointly unveiled the team’s new 2017-2018 third jersey. It is the first time in history that the match jersey has been created entirely by fans of the club. Adidas’ digital platform “Creator Studio” inspires the creativity of fans around the world.

In 2016, Adidas launched the digital platform that gave fans all over the world a chance to design the clubs’ 2017-18 third match jerseys including Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, Juventus, AC Milan and Flamengo RJ. All designs would be voted by netizens and be selected the top 100. After that, the most fashionable players from these clubs would select the only one they wanted to wear at football pitches.

The new shirt is predominately grey in contrast to the red home shirt and black away shirt. The classic elements of the Red Devils are also shown on the shirt, symbolizing the connection between Manchester United and its fans.

Aniello Carotenuto is the designer of this special third shirt who is a loyal fan of Man Utd. He put the statues of the Holy Trinity on the shirt referring to the Manchester United trio of Sir Bobby Charlton, George Best and Denis Law. The three legendary footballers represented a golden era of the club history and helped United become the first English club team. When players wearing the shirt enter into Old Trafford Stadium, they will be encouraged by the persons printed in the shirt.

Sir Bobby Charlton is a former striker playing for Manchester United and is regarded as one of the greatest midfielders of all time. Nowadays, he is a member of Manchester United’s board of directors and remains one as of the 2017-18 season. When Charlton played for the club, he helped the team win three titles of Premier League, UEFA Champions League and FA Cup. Charlton with England national team won 1966 World Cup, at the same time, he got the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball award. He was praised for being a “football gentleman” because of his modesty and courteousness, elegance and respect for opponents.

George Best (22 May 1946-25 November 2005) was a professional footballer who played as a winger for Manchester United and the Northern Ireland national team. In 1968, he was named the European Footballer of the Year and FWA Footballer of the Year. He played 37 matches and scored nine goals for his nation from 1964 to 1977. The Irish Football Association described him as the “greatest player to ever pull on the green shirt of Northern Ireland”. He had not only extraordinary football talent but also a handsome face, which made him have a large number of admirers from every corner of the world at that time. In 1984, Best announced officially his retirement. Unfortunately, Best died on 25 November 2005. A year later, it was announced that a statue of the trio would be erected outside Old Trafford, which was finally unveiled in 2008.
